We are closely monitoring the conflict in Ukraine, which is home to the fifth largest Jewish community in the world, with an estimated 200,000 Jews. We are deeply concerned for their safety and join others who wish for peace.
For almost a century, whenever and wherever there have been threats to Jewish life, the Federation provided vital humanitarian aid through important partnerships with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), The Jewish Agency for Israel, and World Ort. Below you find timely information of what is being done on the ground as well as the official statement from Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) – our umbrella organization. The situation is fluid and we will update you as we learn more.

JDC is in the region working to ensure the well-being of the Jewish population in Ukraine. As prices for daily essentials such as food, medicine, and utilities have risen, needy Jews are forced to make a desperate choice between buying food or keeping warm through the freezing winter. JDC is working around the clock to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid across 1,000 locations benefitting nearly 40,000 Jewish elderly and poor families, including holocaust survivors.
The Jewish Agency for Israel just opened an emergency hotline to provide Ukrainian Jews with guidance and information regarding the Aliyah process and general assistance for community members. Hundreds of thousands of Jews are eligible to immigrate to Israel under its Law of Return.
World Ort is securing Jewish schools to make sure administration and staff are equipped to respond to emergency needs.
